Happy Wednesday, App Collective! The sun is shining here in Miami again, and I truly hope that wherever you are in the world reading this, you are having a good day.
Life is filled with surprises and delights despite the heaviness that surrounds us. I hope you take a minute to appreciate the flowers, the lovely aroma, the delightful sip of a beverage, a child near you’s laughter, a song you haven’t listened to in years that brings back that special memory..you know the collection of things we experience in our daily lives that we sometimes take for granted when we aren’t stopping to appreciate them. Ahhh, doesn’t that feel good!?
Today is a free episode. Enjoy! Happy Valentine’s Day, loves!
What’s inside:
Google
Google
Oh, here she goes again, talking about Google and page domination. Let’s take a step back before taking a few steps forward.
If you’ve ever been to Manhattan, New York, you are aware that the entrances to get onto the island are through multiple bridges and tunnels surrounding it. There are straightforward tunnels like the Lincoln Tunnel from New Jersey into the city or the Midtown tunnel in Queens, and then there are smaller bridges you can get to if you’re lucky enough to be around that area of Brooklyn or Queens where there is one. And then there are larger bridges, too, like the Verrazano, Queensboro, and Brooklyn bridges. There are hundreds of thousands of vehicles that enter through these roadways each and every day.
With the sheer volume of traffic and the number of people who need access to get into the city, it’s essential to have multiple options. You still with me?
Now, let’s talk about how this relates to Google and Shopify apps. This is fun, right?
Google is one of the largest highways that can lead traffic to your Shopify app. It is made up of large bridges (top keywords and placements for your app listing on page 1), tunnels (your website), and smaller bridges (videos, listings on other sites, images, Reddit threads, etc).
For today’s discussion, I will leave out paid ads or Google Adwords, but obviously, you can pay to play there, too. We’ll cover this in a different episode.
We all still following and here?
That is why it is essential you cover your bases in each of these categories to gain exposure on Google to lead traffic to your Shopify app.
Let’s explore a few of these areas for visual purposes.
Your app listing with a top keyword
I know I used arrows, but there are exceptions to every rule, okay!?
Judge.me’s Shopify app listing has great placement for their top keyword on Google’s first page.
This is one of the best bridges you can get on to invite more installs to your app.
On top of that, they are listed on Shopify’s Best product review’s list just above that as well. That’s a smaller bridge with several other apps but you’re in the front of the line.
Videos hosted on YouTube
Creating multiple videos hosted on YouTube (which is owned by Google) can be a great smaller bridge to get someone interested in your Shopify app and eventually find their way onto your app listing. If your video solves the problem they are searching for or creates a discovery opportunity, it’s done its job and you’ve found a new user!
Custom Price Calculator has multiple videos appear when searching for their top keyword on page 1 of Google. They are answering multiple queries all at once and widening their bridge or tunnel.
Images
Notice how many of the images are from the Shopify app listing? When you click on an image, you land on the app listing. This is one of the many reasons why I emphasize the importance of having a nice looking media gallery that is updated with clear and large H1s, nice looking images, Built for Shopify badges, etc. This is a gateway into your listing and potentially having a merchant install your app from Google.
We could go on but I think you’re seeing the point of Google page domination and building as many bridges and tunnels to your app as possible - big, small, and everything in between.
That’s it! Have a great day. Remember what I said about enjoying the small moments. Kiss your dog, cat, bird, kid, partner, mom, dad, grandma, etc.
K, bye! And until next week, from the wise words of Josh Allen, the quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, “"Be good, do good, God bless, and Go Bills."
